| Hollywood Reporter calls it, "an intimate 'Sixth Sense''
Jan Wall, "Talking Pictures" - BayTV, KRON-TV in San Francisco also said it
was "A stunningly beautiful, wonderful ride. Witty and uplifting. Gritty,
tough yet tender that leaves you feeling better about the world and your
place in it. Insightful. Vanessa Redgrave should be up for best actress.
Acting doesn't get any better than this. "
"A gorgeous
and deeply inspiring meditation on coming to terms with the past, A
Rumor of Angels boasts the remarkable performances of a
multi-generational cast."-- Cinemax (Seattle International Film Festival)

James Neubauer (Trevor
Morgan) is spending the summer on the beautiful coast of Maine
with his Uncle Charlie (Ron Livingston), his ultra busy dad, Nathan (Ray
Liotta), and his new stepmom, Mary (Catherine McCormack), whom James
detests. Isolated from his father and kids his own age, James is
still haunted by images of the devastating and horrific car accident
that killed his mom two years ago.
One Day while playing an
imaginary game on the beach behind crazy Matty Bennett's (Vanessa
Redgrave) cottage, he accidentally breaks her fence and she demands that
he fix it. Fueled by Matty's gun-wielding antics and legendary
stories about her, James begrudgingly accepts his responsibility.
Surprisingly, they find a common ground in their ability to face, rather
than bury, their grief and pain.
Matty
teaches James to live his life full of fun and hope. As their
friendship grows, his family interferes, suggesting that Matty and her
strange beliefs are dangerous to James and is tearing them apart.
Matty takes the criticism
to heart and refuses to see James anymore. James, furious, goes to
confront Matty - the one person who has helped him accept his mother's
death - and finds her unconscious. While nursing her, James
finally confronts his father, whose inability to deal with own sorrow
has alienated him from his son and his new wife. Through James,
Nathan comes to terms with what is really important in his life - his
family.
As
James and his parents pack up for the summer, he is inspired by the
unusual lessons he has learned from Matty, which has helped bridge his
relationship with his stepmom. As they drive away, James sees the
pulse of the lighthouse off the coast and feels Matty's inspiration.
